Michael is the retired Managing Director of Fuel Strategy & Management at Southwest Airlines, where he led a team of professionals responsible for supply, operations, and fuel management system support for the company's physical jet fuel, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). With over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, Michael has a deep understanding of the complex and dynamic nature of fuel/SAF strategy and management, as well as the legal and regulatory aspects of the field.

Michael holds a J.D. from Drake University Law School with a focus on corporate law, which enables him to navigate the legal implications of fuel/SAF management decisions, including M&A, investments, and JVs. Michael also has a background in aviation management from Oklahoma State University, which gives him a solid foundation in the operational aspects of the industry. With extensive experience as an aviation executive, Michael has honed his skills in fuel strategy, and procurement, while ensuring compliance with strict legal and regulatory standards. He thrives in navigating complex business scenarios, leveraging a rich blend of business acumen and a legal background to spearhead mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.

Throughout Michael's career, he has celebrated numerous milestones, from achieving significant fuel cost savings for a major airline to leading strategic investments into innovative SAF ventures like LanzaJet, Inc. His leadership in advancing environmental sustainability strategies is augmented by key roles such as the A4A Energy Council Chairman and SAF Committee Vice-Chairman. Recognized with multiple President's Awards at Southwest Airlines, Michael's contributions have consistently empowered teams to exceed targets and set industry standards.
